Created by the French type designer Claude Garamond, Garamond is inspired by ancient types found in the Roman Empire. These type specimen cards are also based on ancient folklore from throughout the Middle East, as compiled in One Thousand and One Nights. Each suit tells a story: the heart suit (Scheherazade and Shahryar), the diamond suit (Sinbad the Sailor), the clubs suit (Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp), and the spade suit (Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves).
